Built in the 1970's, this property was surrounded by listed buildings and buildings 'of special note'. A further constraint to development was the presence of a number of mature trees.
The scheme which we developed included the major reconfiguration of internal spaces, two storey extensions at one end of the property and to the rear, together with conversion of an existing garage and the addition of first floor accommodation above.
Given the prominent central location of the property our clients were keen to make substantial improvements to its rather dated appearance at the same time as extending and altering its layout. Roofs were tiled with hand crafted clay plain tiles, a traditional handmade red/orange brick was selected, existing brickwork was rendered with a lime-based mortar selected to give a traditional appearance, and new painted timber windows were installed throughout.
Although it is in effect an entirely new building, the result is a home which appears anything but new and sits comfortably amongst its much older neighbours.
