Volkswagen Group had identified the need for a purpose-built training facility to be known as their National Learning Centre – a place where technicians from all over the UK could attend specialist courses to familiarize themselves with the very latest in emerging automotive technologies. In addition they required a bespoke company car handover facility together with additional office space for management training.
RPA Architects carried out in-depth feasibility studies which demonstrated that it was both practically and economically beneficial to re-use a redundant 10,000m2 steel-framed warehouse building rather than demolishing it and re-building.
The business perceived significant operational and financial benefits in this unexpected approach and together we developed a more detailed brief to establish and implement a design solution which would result in a truly impressive UK facility. The design and its delivery met all client expectations, transforming a simple portal-framed structure into a modern flagship training facility.
The initial development proved so successful that Volkswagen asked us to implement two further phases in order to expand the facility and increase capacity. The National Learning Centre in Milton Keynes has since formed the blueprint for other Volkswagen facilities worldwide.
RPA have worked for Volkswagen Group on prestigious projects - concept creation to completion of the National Learning Centre and the creation of a unique top class reception. They have also managed many smaller projects for the Group with equal enthusiasm and dedication.
I highly recommend RPA Architects.
